Hungary’s Digital Citizenship Program Will Remove the Need for ID Cards
A Digital Citizenship Initiative to Do Away with ID Cards
According to Magyar Nemzet, the Digital Citizenship initiative has been introduced, and starting in the fall, it will be possible to handle an increasing number of administrative chores using mobile devices. Pre-registration has already begun, according to a video that Parliamentary State Secretary Csaba Dötömötör uploaded on the Hungarian government’s social media website.
The lawmaker emphasized that starting in September, we won’t need to carry our IDs with us because we may use our phones to identify ourselves to the police. He clarified that by using a mobile application, we would be able to locate our personal information in one location, download it, and send it securely, simplifying administration.
The lawmaker mentioned that starting in the fall, users would be able to apply online for a certificate of good conduct—the first of its kind in Hungary—by simply pressing a button on the new application.
