In the third trimester of 2023, the unemployment rate in the Netherlands climbed somewhat. Even so, it continues to be among the lowest in the EU.
According to a report earlier this week by the Netherlands Times, the country’s unemployment rate increased to 3.6% in the third quarter of 2023 from 3.5% in the second.
This small rise translates into 16,000 more jobless individuals. The Dutch publication highlighted that more than half of the openings are in the business, trade, and healthcare sectors, citing statistics from the national statistical office.
People between the ages of 18 and 25 are the most affected by unemployment, with a rate of 8.7%, up from 8.2% in the previous quarter, which is consistent with data from throughout Europe. For the remaining population, the unemployment rate stays below 3%.
