Which nations are not included in the Schengen Area?

Even though many nations are members of both the European Union and the Schengen Area, these two organizations are very different from one another. An agreement to have open borders, a common visa policy, and travel criteria for people who aren’t EU citizens is known as the Schengen Area. The European Union, on the other hand, is essentially a political and economic union and encompasses much more than travel and visa regulations.

Despite this, a large number of EU nations have not ratified the Schengen Agreement. There are several non-EU nations that have at the same moment.

Is the UK a member of Schengen?

The European Union and the Schengen Agreement do not include the United Kingdom. Prior to Brexit, the UK remained a member of the EU until January 1, 2021.

However, just as British people are still able to travel to the EU, residents of the EU and Schengen are still eligible to visit the UK without a visa. However, following Brexit, UK residents are only permitted to stay in the EU for a total of 90 days during a 180-day period.

Can a Schengen Visa Be Used to Enter Non-EU Countries?

With a Schengen Visa, you can travel to 15 non-EU nations, including:

  • Serbia and Montenegro
  • Colombia

  • Montenegro

Although Bulgaria and Romania are two EU nations that are not a part of the Schengen Agreement, you can nevertheless enter and travel to these nations without a visa if you have a valid Schengen visa.

If you have a Schengen visa, you can travel to some European nations that are not members of the Schengen Agreement without a visa.
